JUSTMADEIT / RETURN FAILURE

Why Users Try Your App And Never Come Back

A first try proves curiosity. A return suggests value. If users try your app once and disappear, the return reason needs investigation.

01

Curiosity is not commitment

People will try a product because it is new, recommended, or interesting. That does not mean the product created a reason to come back.

02

Common return blockers

  • The first session took too much setup.
  • The product did not reach a clear value moment.
  • The next step was not obvious.
  • The user solved the problem once and had no continuing need.
  • The audience was wrong.
03

Ask return-intent questions after use

Return intent is stronger when the participant has actually attempted the product. Ask what would make them come back and what would stop them.

04

Use retention carefully

Put the actual product in front of real people. Let the evidence decide what holds up.
